Double Dragon Neon (2012, PlayStation 3 / Xbox 360): An extremely Affectionate Parody of the series developed by WayForward.Unlike Shadow Falls, Technos actually made this one and it was the last one they made before going out of business. Double Dragon (1995, Neo Geo): A one-on-one fighting game based on the movie.Ported to Sega Genesis and Atari Jaguar.Once again, Technos had very little involvement with this one. Double Dragon V: The Shadow Falls (1994, SNES): A Tradewest-developed one-on-one fighting game based on the animated series.Ported to Game Boy, Sega Genesis, and SNES.Technos had very little involvement with this one. Return of Double Dragon (1992, SFC): An updated release note originally Japan only, officially distributed by Retroism in 2018.Double Dragon (1992, Game Gear): An original game developed and produced by Virgin Interactive, also known as Double Dragon: The Revenge of Billy Lee in Europe.note The latter two are alternatively titled Double Dragon 3: The Arcade Game. Ported to NES note concurrently developed with the arcade version titled Double Dragon III: The Sacred Stones in North America and Europe and Double Dragon III: The Rosetta Stone in Japan, Commodore 64, Amiga, Amstrad CPC, ZX Spectrum, Atari ST, Windows, Game Boy, and Sega Genesis.Double Dragon 3: The Rosetta Stone (1990, arcade).Double Dragon II: Wander of the Dragons (2013, Xbox 360): A 3D reimagining of the arcade original. There was also a handheld LCD Double Dragon based on The Revenge, though (being a '90s LCD handheld) it was extremely stripped down.It is actually a localization of a Kunio-kun game. An unrelated Double Dragon II was released for the Game Boy in 1991.Ported to Amiga, Windows, Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC, ZX Spectrum, Atari ST, NES note reformulated port, Japanese Mega Drive, PC Engine Super CD-ROM 2 note remake of the NES conversion, and PlayStation 4.Double Dragon II: The Revenge (1988, arcade).Double Dragon (2011, iOS): By the makers of the Zeebo version, ported to Android the following year.Double Dragon (2009, Zeebo): Available only in Brazil and Mexico, loosely based on Advance.Double Dragon Advance (2003 Game Boy Advance): First game developed by Million, a remake of the original with elements of later games.Ported to NES, Sega Master System, Windows, Amstrad CPC, ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, Amiga, Atari ST, Atari 2600, Atari 7800, MSX, Game Boy, Sega Genesis, Atari Lynx, Mobile Phones note both original and "EX" versions, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. In addition to the games, there was also an animated series and a live-action movie, as well as a comic where their dad was Stan Lee. While the series is nowhere near as prevalent as it was back in the day, it still gets an occasional new game once in a while. The rights was later bought, alongside other Technos properties by Arc System Works. The series was revived when Million Corp., a company founded by former Technos staff members, bought the rights. The series died out after Technos went out of business in 1996 (long after the beat-'em-up boom ended), despite attempts to adapt it into a Fighting Game format. The three NES versions (along with the first two Game Boy games and the SNES-exclusive installment) were actually developed by Technos themselves, while most of the other versions were licensed out and developed by other companies. The 2-Players Mode also provides a twist in the end: if both players manage to make all the way to the end, then the two are forced to fight each other to the death, with the survivor getting to claim Marian for himself.ĭouble Dragon was followed by two arcade sequels and numerous home versions for various platforms. While not the first of its kind, as Double Dragon was originally intended to be a sequel to their previous game Renegade, the game improved upon its predecessor's formula by allowing up to two players to play simultaneously and adding the ability to pick and use weapons against the enemies (both features would become standard in subsequent games in the genre). and distributed by Taito, featured a rather simple and standard premise: twin martial artists Billy and Jimmy Lee must save their lady friend Marian from the clutches of the Black Warriors, a ruthless gang that controls the city. The original 1987 arcade game, developed by the now-defunct Technos Japan Corp. Yea, Double Dragon! Fuckin yo face, it's time to DUKE it! Double Dragon is a series of side-scrolling Beat 'em Ups that helped popularize the genre back in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

As you engage several of your students’ senses, they will be better able to listen and comprehend class materials.īecause students are often ready to listen during story time, this can be an excellent opportunity to teach active listening. You could, for example, sing a song to teach students the names of the solar system planets or have students draw a scene from a book as you read it in class. Multisensory learning involves any activity that engages two or more of the senses (such as sight, hearing, or smell). If you have students who struggle to listen in class, multisensory curriculum can be helpful. This will not only be helpful for your classroom as a whole but also students with disorders that act as a barrier to active listening and focus, like attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Try to limit the number of distracting decorations in your classroom, such as too many posters or large, very bright items. Clearly, teaching students how to be active listener should be a part of your class curriculum.Īctive listening is easiest when there are fewer distractions. And in the classroom, teachers often understand that listening is an important skill to have but rarely teach it. On average, people listen at about 25% of their potential. How to Help Students Develop Stronger Active Listening Skills Lower levels of frustration, anxiety, and depression. So, in review: teaching students listening skills leads to lasting advantages in a student’s academic career and beyond, including: And finally, practicing active listening can promote empathy-a skill that can enrich a student’s life both in and outside of the classroom. It can also help students build relationships because as they engage themselves in conversation, their peers are more likely to view them as open and interested. Active listening promotes mindful thinking, which can reduce anxiety and depression in students. The importance of active listening also branches into social-emotional development. Plus, for dual language learners in your class, learning how to listen can help students pick up their second language faster. This is because students who listen pick up more knowledge to reflect on and think critically about before they respond. Learning how to listen can also teach students how to communicate their ideas. This means that students who develop better listening skills are more likely to feel confident, comfortable, and prepared to succeed in school. Additionally, improved listening skills can lead to improved self-efficacy, or a student’s belief that they can succeed in class. For example, students with strong listening skills don’t just retain more information, but they are also less likely to feel unprepared and frustrated in class. Why teach students tips and tricks that lead to active listening? The answer may seem obvious, but helping students learn to listen can give them advantages you might not expect. The Benefits of Teaching Students How to Listen Strategies that encourage active listening and limit its passive counterpart as much as possible are important ways to help students perform well in class. A classroom example of passive listening? Students who text during class, interrupt other classmates to voice their opinion, or do homework during lecture or story time may be passive listeners. A passive listener might pay attention to a speaker with the sole intent to respond or place some of their attention in another task. Passive listening, however, is like listening while multitasking. In school, one example of active listening would be a student waiting their turn and considering what their peers have to say before stating their opinion in a classroom discussion. It also includes complete focus on the speaker with minimal distractions out of respect and an intent to learn. One great way to think of positive versus negative listening skills is through the example of active and passive listening.Īctive listening, loosely defined, is paying attention to a speaker and listening to understand, not to respond. What’s the Difference Between Active and Passive Listening?īefore diving into why it’s important to teach effective listening skills, let’s go over what exactly that looks like. In this guide, we’ll teach you why and how to teach your students how to listen-as well as all about active listening, a strategy you can use to help students focus on and understand your lessons more effectively. The benefits of strong listening skills may begin in class, but they extend through all aspects of your student’s academic and personal lives. If you don’t currently teach your students specifically how to listen, it may be time to add activities to your curriculum that strengthen this skill. Here’s a fast fact: over 60% of all misunderstandings come from poor listening and only 1% from poor reading. It introduces the world, the characters, there’s a nice little plot. I read this first graphic novel and liked it well enough. I didn’t feel that way about Sandman immediately. The truth is, Shakespeare wishes he wrote something this good.īut let’s back up a bit. It’s just that back then, Shakespeare was the best thing I’d ever read. I’d give it to people and say, “You have to read this! It’s like Shakespeare!” I remember thinking, “Can you do this? Can you have Odin and angels and faeries and witches and… just everything? All at once? In the same story? Is this allowed?” And it was unlike any story I’d ever read. “But some of it is close.”įirst he gave we Watchmen, and it floored me despite the fact that I didn’t I didn’t know superheroes mythology from a hole in the ground. I shook it at them, angry and incredulous, demanding: “Is it all as good as this?” Hours later, I hunted down the person who had brought the book. I read the whole thing straight through, completely lost in it, deaf to the riot and welter around me. I was well into my 20’s when, at a weekend-long party, I sat down in a quiet corner and idly picked up a copy of Dark Night Returns. I read Roethke and Frost and Brooks and Baldwin.īut comics? That was like… Garfield, right? And superheroes? I didn’t spare any thought for them, and when I did, I assumed they were (and I’m ashamed to write this now) silly bullshit for kids. I had a couple thousand fantasy and sci-fi novels under my belt, and my classes were exposing me to Shakespeare and Chaucer, Sanskrit theater and the Harlem Renaissance poets. Didn’t occur to me they might be worth reading. Then I read a novel or two a day until I finished high school.Įven as I slouched through college, comics simply weren’t on my radar. I was a voracious reader as a kid, going through pretty much every picture book in the local library until I finally started chapter books around age 9. If that’s not enough to convince you… I guess all that’s left is for me to tell you a story or two. It’s not often you get to say that and mean it. I don’t want to spoil its secrets or steal its thunder. If you haven’t read this book, and are, perhaps, standing in a bookstore or a comic shop, wondering if it’s worth your time, what I can say to convince you? Should I wax rhapsodic? Get lyrical and grandiose? Reference some of the story’s funnier jokes so I seem more clever than I really am? If you’ve already read this book, you know nothing I can say is as good as what waits for you ahead. You know it is beautiful and deep and wry and wondrous. If you’ve already read Sandman, what can I tell you that you don’t already know deep in the secret corners of your heart? You know this story is lovely and brilliant and sweet and strange. I’ll admit, I’m at a bit of a loss as to what to do here. **(What follows is an excerpt from the intro)** But rather than just my usual messy gush about how I love some story, I got permission from the publisher to re-print part of my introduction I wrote. To celebrate, I thought I'd write a review here. It's been half a year since I got the invitation, and months since I actually finished writing the introduction, but I still can't believe it. I wrote the introduction to the 30th anniversary edition of The Sandman.
